The good news is that the DC Jack in this laptop is on a charger board which requires no soldering when replacing it. The not-so-good-news is that in order to replace the charger board, the entire laptop needs to be disassembled. But, disassembling a laptop is not as difficult as it looks. Generally, the Inspiron 1525 is easier to disassemble than other laptops.
The first step is to take out the battery.
The second step is to take out the hard drive. The hard drive enclosure is held in place by two screws which are located underneath the laptop.
The third step is to take out the optical drive. Below is a photo of the screw fastening to the optical drive.
The fourth step is to unscrew all the screws that are located underneath the laptop, and there will be many of them. Place the screws in a separate plastic container to make the laptop assembly easier. There will be couple of screws around the battery as well.
The fifth step is to remove the Center Control Cover. The Center Control Cover is the plastic cover that has buttons on it.
The sixth step is to disconnect the cable that goes from the Center Control Cover to the motherboard.
The seventh step is to remove the keyboard. The keyboard is fixed with two screws and has a ribbon cable which goes to the motherboard.
The eighth step is to separate the display assembly from its base. Before we can take out the display assembly, we must disconnect the cables from the wireless card that is located underneath the laptop. Do this by carefully lifting the plugs. We then need to disconnect the video cable.
Next, unscrew the screws that hold the hinges in place. There are two screws located on each side.
Then, remove the Bluetooth card.
Next, remove the Palm Rest. To remove palm rest, unscrew the two screws that are located on the left side, then disconnect all the cables that are still attached to the motherboard.
Then, take out the Express Card cage.
Then next step is Processor Thermal-Cooling Assembly
Start this process by removing the System Board Assembly or the motherboard.
There will be a few screws located in this area that you will need to unscrew. Two screws are located on the Charger Board itself.
Unscrew the screws that hold the motherboard in place and then disconnect all the cables that are still attached to the motherboard.
Take a look underneath the laptop and check if there is anything that would prevent the motherboard separating from the mini-card, for example.
Then, carefully lift the motherboard, starting from the right side and then taking it out. There will be a Charger Board on the left side that will still be fastened with one screw.
