My Sony Vaio SVf1521b1RW

Today I’m going to write a review of the Sony Vaio SVf1521b1RW laptop computer my wife bought about five years ago. The processor speed is 1.8 GHz, and it has 4 gigs of ram. The hard drive has 450 gigs of space on it. I’m not too sure what the screen is. I have to be honest and say that this is the first laptop that I ever used. I had briefly played around with a laptop before this. My background is strictly in desktop computers.

I’ll tell you a little bit about myself. I’ve been around computers almost my entire life. I don't know too much about the guts of a computer. I’m not a tech person in the sense that I’m fascinated by what’s inside a computer. I’m more interested in what a computer can do. Computers today are more disposable than what they used to be. There was a time when you worked on your desktop if something went wrong with it. Today, people are more likely to throw it away and buy a new one.

Enough about me, let’s talk about this computer. This is an adequate computer depending on what you’re going to do with it. You’re not going to be able to use Photoshop or video editing software. I can’t say how it handles when playing games. I don’t play games on the computer. I stopped playing games a long time ago. I still long for the days of playing whatever Super Mario Bros is the latest release. But, I don’t have time for that now. Things change when you get older and have a family.

I think this is a good computer for all round things. If you’re the type who does web surfing and typical computer work, then it’ll function just fine. You will notice some slowdowns when running multiple programs. The lag time can be more significant if you have lots of tabs open in many different browsers. You have to keep an eye on how much system resources you're using. A typical computer user shouldn’t have a problem with this. You’re not going to have a taskbar full of programs running at the same time. Though, if you do, then this is not the computer for you.

I don’t know if Sony is still making a similar computer. I would imagine if you wanted a computer like this you’d have to buy it second hand. If the price is right, then I say go for it. This is a good computer for college students who need something affordable to do classwork on. I imagine you could get one of these now at an excellent price second hand. I’d check out eBay or where ever you buy used electronics locally.

It would make an excellent second computer. If you want something to tote around with you and you’re on a budget. There are a million reasons why you may want to carry a laptop around. Who knows, you may just want something cheap to take to the park or the coffee shop. If that’s the case, then you’ll enjoy using this computer. I use this as my primary computer, but I’m getting a new one soon. I can recommend that you use it as your daily driver only if you’re not into stuff that demands a heavy workload.

If you do very intensive stuff, then it’s best to skip this laptop altogether. I would suggest you go with a used higher quality laptop if money is an issue. I’m partial to desktops, but I can see the value in a laptop. I travel all over the place with this thing. I’ve taken this laptop to quite a few different countries. It’s even held up being dropped on the floor in Thailand. It’s a sturdy computer; there’s no doubt about that. I’ve enjoyed using this computer, and I think you will too. You can use it daily without any concerns. Though, if you’re a gamer or graphic designer, then you’re probably going to want something more powerful.
