There are not as many computer software problems as problems related to the hardware. Hardware needs to be diagnosed properly, and in general, there is lot more problems with hardware issues. If the OS is infected by a virus or has another issue, a simple reinstall will solve this problem in a short time.
Software problems that I have had on computers can be divided into two groups.
Driver related issues. This occurs mostly on PC’s. Macs have all drivers preloaded to the operating system. Unless you are making a hackintosh, then a driver problem cannot be solved quickly. Drivers are usually available from the manufacturers web site. The software that we use for the automatic driver installation is DRPSU.
If you use this program please be aware that it sometimes does not correctly recognize hardware and can install incorrect drivers that will probably crash the system. The benefit of this driver package is that it very rarely makes mistakes. It displays the recognized hardware in the list and any wrongly recognized problems can be spotted. Make sure to do all driver installations by pressing the install all button and then there shouldn’t be any troubles with this package. For example, on the Dell D50, the driver package will recognize the two audio cards, Sigmatel and Realtec. If the auto install link is pressed, it will install both and this will crash the system.
The other problems that you might face is with Microsoft Vista. This operating system has been known as very problematic and now it’s support is discontinued by some software companies. You probably need to find an earlier version of this program to make it work on Vista.
The easiest thing to do is to upgrade to Windows 7 or even to Windows 8 as Microsoft has a huge discount for Windows 8 if upgraded. But, again be warned that familiarizing yourself with Windows 7 will take time. The best operating system to date from Microsoft is still Windows 7 or Windows XP.
Windows XP is still a great operating system. Although some fancy software will not work on it such as Photoshop, as Photoshop is made for the latest OS.
Windows 8, as mentioned above, is also an alternative to Vista.
To date, Windows 8 has good feedback and has inbuilt capability to work on touch screens.
One more time, I will mention that before starting software troubleshooting, make sure that it is 100 % not a hardware fault.
Besides older Windows versions incompatibility with some modern software packages, there is also some difficulties when installing software which requires .net Framework. A simple way is to download this is from the Microsoft website or by using ninite.com to get not only the .net package, but also many more software packages that can be used for updates, as well as the free software for daily use.
Ninite.com is a legit source of unattended software installation packs.
