My Acer laptop comes on fine, but then does not respond to any actions.

I can switch my laptop on and open up to the desktop page.

All the icons I had at the bottom of the page such as internet explorer and windows live mail plus some others had disappeared.

I clicked on the icons on the desktop, but there is no response from anything. I tried clicking on the windows logo on the key board and on the screen. Nothing happens. I just cannot get into it at all to attempt to correct anything in say the control panel.

It has also suddenly started talking to me. If I press any key on the keyboard it says what it is. ie press the space button and it says "space" Press the escape button and it says "escape" Press enter and it says "enter" but does not let me do that.

Help any suggestion please.

Dave

You are welcome. I know a guy who is good at it but he lives in Birmingham Codsal. For you to travel from Manchester to Birmingham may be is too far.
But here is his company: www.pcclinic-midlands.co.uk.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my query.

I will take it to a shop that I know locally and hope he can sort it.

I would like to see actually how the laptop behaves. From here I can't tell you anything for sure. If I would then most likely would point you to a wrong direction. What you can do is to go to a reputable computer repair shop and ask for diagnostics. Most likely you already know an IT guy or better somebody who actually repairs laptops.
